IMPORTANT NOTICE: Aroa Fire Restoration
28.10.2017
Following the fire yesterday, it is now determined that nothing is salvageable from the Aroa facility. The current status is as follows

Mobile Service
The mobile service remains out of service. This means that no Mobile calling, SMS or Mobile data services can be used. Overnight progress has been made with our technology partners Huawei and O3b who are mobilising their emergency restoration teams. The first engineer from O3b arrives tomorrow to assist with determining a restoration strategy and to see what replacement equipment will be required. Huawei Engineers are working on securing replacement equipment and options to provide temporary restoration voice services on the Mobile network as soon as possible. We are working on a solution which may connect to the Samoa Mobile network via O3b to provide temporary voice services.

Fixed Line Services

Approximately 1600 fixed lines are currently being migrated from the destroyed site at Aroa to Avarua. 200 lines have been completed as at 8:00am today. Affected Customers are located in Kauare, Tikioki, Avavaroa, Aroa, Akaoa, Avanaa and Blackrock. Customers will be experiencing a permanent engaged tone. As they are migrated, the engaged tone will be removed and service restored. This will be occurring progressively throughout the weekend. The migration is expected to be completed by Monday midday. Businesses are being restored as a priority.

Internet Broadband

Separately, 288 Internet Broadband customers are out of service, these are in the areas of Betela meeting house to Jehovah Witness church in Aroa. The team is working to install a new Internet Broadband node in the Aroa Cellsite building to restore these customers. This involves cutting in and diverting the Fibre Cable and installing new copper distribution frames to patch in the effected customers.

Bluesky will continue to provide updates as we progress through the restoration. All other facilities remain operational. If customers have any further queries, including about mobile credit and usage please call 123.

We do sincerely apologise for the service interruptions and promise that we are doing our best to minimise the inconvenience.
