Telecom Cook Islands has today issued a warning to iPhone users for unexplained data usage they may be experiencing.
We have been researching the issue and have found there is a global issue with the iPhone, in particular the iOS 6 and iOS 7 operating systems. The internet is full of articles and blogs regarding issues being experienced by iPhone users who had turned off data, turned off apps, etc. but the phone still connected and used data over the mobile network.
The general issue we have found so far is that the iPhone maintains a dual connection with 3G mobile data whilst also using the WiFi network. Background applications such as Cloud services used for backing up files, itunes music, etc. continue to access data even after it has been turned off.
Users will be liable for charges incurred by their phones so Telecom Cook Islands would like to warn all users, particularly iPhone users, to be extremely cautious with their phones access to data and to review the internet forums on the many ways to turn off background applications and services in order to manage their data use.
