What is WiFi?

WiFi is wireless internet.


What is a WiFi enabled device?

To use a WiFi hotspot, your computer must be configured with a WiFi certified radio, such as an external WLAN (wireless local area network) card or an integrated wireless LAN capability as available on many laptops. WiFi capability is now a standard feature on most new laptops being sold.

What do I need to do to use WiFi?

All you need for internet access at a Bluesky Wireless Hotspot is a WiFi enabled device and either a prepaid WiFi voucher or a credit card.


Which Prepaid Card is right for you?

Cards are available in four denominations based on the volume of data that you want to transfer.  The table below will help you decide which card is right for you.

What do you do to connect?

When you’re in a Bluesky Wireless Hotspot Area, simply log on by following these simple steps. 
  1. Launch you internet explorer and it should automatically go to the Wifi login page.
    If it doesn’t just type in http://wifi.oyster.net.ck to access the login page.
     
  2. Log on using one of the following methods:
  • Prepaid WiFi card - enter the username and password
  • Credit card - select the Credit Card Sign up or Credit Card refill
  • Home Internet Broadband Account - enter your home broadband account name followed by @oyster.net.ck and your password. eg. myaccount@oyster.net.ck
  1. Follow the on-screen instructions.

How can I tell how much data I have left on my Prepaid card?

To view you account usage statistics login to http://wifi.telecom.co.ck and select “My usage Statistics”.


Why am I prompted to change my access code?

This is so no other user can gain to access to your internet session. You should type in a new code that’s at least six characters long and made up of both numbers and letters.


I think there’s a problem with coverage at a Wireless Hotspot.  What should I do?
The connection between your device and the internet is made via a radio signal, which can be affected by a number of external factors.  Bluesky has made every effort to ensure that you experience the best quality service it can offer; however if you are having
problems please call us on 123 and let us know, so we can investigate the situation.


How secure is the service?

Although rigorous testing has been done Bluesky’s wireless hotspot service can’t offer a guaranteed protection against viruses, the interception or misuse of your data or other harmful occurrences.  We strongly recommend you protect your computing device through methods such as a firewall and anti-virus software.

What are the benefits of having WiFi?
  • It allows wireless enabled devices, such as laptops and PDA’s to wirelessly connect to the Internet.
     
  • It also allows authorized customers to browse the Internet, check their e-mail and keep in contact with family and friends.
     
  • Internet access is protected by a built-in accounting and billing application.  Customer must have a ticket before browsing.
     
  • It can be used to install a wired “Cyber Cafe”. It comes complete with Access Point, Billing Software, receipt printer and it’s easy to operate.
