We operate a GSM900 Mobile Network on all inhabited islands of the Cook Islands. We also provide Mobile Data using 3G in Rarotonga and Aitutaki, while using 2.5G for the rest of the Outer Islands.
How do Mobile charges work?
At Bluesky we have two types of Mobile services:
Postpaid mobile works with plans which include calling, text and data and has a set monthly fee according to the plan that you choose. Postpaid comes with an account and is payable at the monthly billing time.
Prepaid mobile is a use-as-you-go service, where you can purchase credit from as little as $1. Once the credit has been used you will need to purchase more credit. Purchased credit is valid for 6 months. Credit that is transferred from one prepaid number to another prepaid number does not extend simcard expiry dates. Please note that prepaid simcards are valid for 6 months from date of last credit purchase.
Are there any hardware requirements?
You need a Bluesky SIM Card and a Mobile Phone handset to join up to either of our mobile services. If bringing a mobile handset from overseas, ensure the handset is 'unlocked' . If the handset is 'locked' to the service provider from overseas - this will prevent the use of a Bluesky Cook Islands simcard.
Do I have to register?
Yes, you need to register your Postpaid mobile. Contact us for an application form.
For Postpaid Mobile the account holder will need to txt "usage" to 901 and it will give data, SMS and calling info. Alternatively you can call 123 or pop into the Customer Care office and speak to one of our Customer Service staff.
For Prepaid Mobile, you can call 718 from your mobile phone and a voice prompt will tell you your credit balance. This call will also be followed up by a text message (SMS) with the confirmed information.
